During the shutdown period (August–September 2016), besides the regular maintenance tasks, the following strategic upgrades were performed on AREAL facility:
- A 7 MW klystron with the second RF station was tested and mounted in AREAL RF hall.
- A New control system, based on Micro-Tele-Communication Analysis (uTCA) unit, was tested and is ready for the operation of two RF stations.
- The laser stability has been increased by about 2 times. Moreover, the laser system performance has been improved due to the upgrade of the existing synchronization module.
- A new control software was developed “in-house”. The control panel for beam imaging cameras was replaced with the new version, adding new possibilities for beam image analyzes. A new software for the remote control of delay generator was completed.
