From Theory to Experiment: German-Armenian Joint Practical Course 2026

From October 3 to 11, CANDLE Synchrotron Research Institute (CANDLE SRI) is hosting the annual German-Armenian Joint Practical Course, organized in collaboration with DESY Research Institute, the University of Hamburg, and Yerevan State University.
Launched in 2019, the course provides students with a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in accelerator-based research and to apply their theoretical knowledge in a real experimental environment.
This year, 15 students from the University of Hamburg and 9 students from Yerevan State University are taking part in the program. Under the guidance of Armenian and German professors and supervisors, the participants are conducting experimental projects using the AREAL electron accelerator at CANDLE SRI.
The course aims to strengthen students’ theoretical and practical knowledge, develop their research and experimental skills, and provide valuable experience in working with advanced scientific equipment. At the same time, it serves as an important platform for fostering international scientific cooperation and personal exchange between Armenia and Germany.
Through this long-standing collaboration, students have the opportunity not only to deepen their understanding of accelerator physics and related research fields, but also to build professional connections and experience the value of working in an international scientific environment.
