It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing away of Dr., Professor Eduard Laziev, who was one of the founders of accelerator physics in Armenia.
Eduard Laziev was born on July 17, 1933, in Akhaltsikhe. In 1956, he graduated from the Moscow Electrotechnical Institute and from the same year joined the ARUS project in the group of Professor Yuri Orlov.
For about 5 years (1994 to 1999), he was an employee of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Dubna) of the Russian Federation. Professor Laziev was the head of the Accelerator Physics Department of the Yerevan Institute of Physics for many years, while simultaneously teaching at the Faculty of Radio physics of Yerevan State University. In 2002, he joined the CANDLE SRI team with great enthusiasm to contribute his creative ideas, experience, and knowledge to the field of accelerator physics and technology.
On his 75th birthday, the professor was awarded a commemorative medal for his invaluable contribution to the establishment and development of YerPhI, the construction of the 6 GeV ARUS accelerator, as well as for his many years of leadership of the Accelerator department at YerPhI. On the scientist’s 90th birthday, the CANDLE SRI awarded him a commemorative medal, expressing deep gratitude.
The great scientist’s works relate to accelerator physics, beam physics, electrodynamics, and ultrashort radio wave electrodynamics. Among the most important results of his high professional skills, scientific and pedagogical activities are more than 30 dissertations successfully defended under his leadership and the personnel he has trained, who still continue to contribute to the development of science.
The staff of CANDLE SRI expresses deepest condolences to the family, relatives, and colleagues of Professor Laziev and shares with them the grief of this irreparable loss.
