Comments:
I see that everyone guarantees his or her support for this ground-breaking project , but it seems to me that nobody asks him or herself why this project has not been implemented yet. I could probably speculate about it. But to be honest, I don’t see any logical reason why this project hasn’t been implemented by now. The fact ist that the entire country would profit from it, not only science in armenia, but the whole country’s economy and its reputation in the world. Who or what is hampering the implementation? We definitely have to ask ourselves this question. Because who or whatever it is, it does not want the best for Armenia, it does not want Armenia to develop and become a strong and influental player in the world. We have to take the initiative and solve this problem for all, because this issue concerns Armenia’s future and the canle project’s non-implementation may risk armenia’s downfall.

It is now a universal fact that no other single experimental facility can serve the cause of research in all the fields in physical and life sciences as well as be precious to the industry as a good synchrotron radiation facility. Having realised this fact, many countries in different parts of the world are investing their resources in creating such a facility. The latest examples are Switzerland, Canada, Australia, China, Brazil, India, Thailand, South Africa and many other countries. The move by the Armenian scientific community therefore is very timely, and commendable and desreves all the support from the Armenian Government as well as the international scientific community.

The synchrotron radiation facilities are opened up the possibilty of opening new frontiers of science.
Myself I construct X-ray tubes for UHV – XPS-XAES
instruments, but during the visits in syncrotron labs,
I thought that the more precise X-ray sources are the synchrotrons. And Trieste, Berkley, Tsukuba syncrotron
scientists showed me their labs, and I have read many
excellent results from other syncrotron colleagues as well. Grenoble, Hamburg, Osaka, etc. I think in the near and the far future the synchrotrons will be very important scientific instruments not only in general in science but in the frontiers of materials science including the biological materials as well. As much as possible uniform distributions of synchrotron radiation facilities in the world also important.
As I know the Armenian Scientist are excellent, and they plan to open their lab for the wolrld science
community, which is important, and I am sure in it that there will be some of the parameters in the planed new source which can not be reached in the case of other sources at the monent. Go ahead.
Contruct an excellent new X-ray souurce as a synchrotron. Jozsef.

Synchrotron Radiation is useful for various reasons
1. You get scientific payoff in the understanding of materials which generally leads to economic development
2. You international collaboration and exposure in the international scene.
3. You generate a local economy around the facility that has economic spinoffs elsewhere
4. You establish a scientific infrastructure that establishes you as one of the international players in the developed world.

Dr. Ali Khounsary,   Technical Staff, Adjunct Professor,  Argonne National Laboratory (APS),
Argonne, IL 60439, USA
Comments:
This is an exciting project, technically sound, wide-ranging in its applications, and broad in its constituency. Providing economic justification for this project is not the intent of this petition. However, a thorough cost-benefit analysis of a technical project such as this would highlight both the tangible and intangible benefits, which would have to be communicated to the taxpayers whose support and willingness to finance it is the key.

Armenia is a nation with several thousand years of history, with a highly skilled workforce, and an impressive number of talented scientists and engineers (especially in comparison with its population). She will do no wrong by pursuing this project energetically, putting Armenia ever more so on the world scientific landscape. As the list of the signatories of this petition shows, this project enjoys the support and goodwill of many in the technical communities worldwide. There is no doubt that advocates of this project can count on both domestic and international collaborators for support in the planning phase and in the design, construction, operation, and use of the facility.
