Visits to CANDLE Institute start to capture international communities. On 13.11.2018, over 30 high school students of UWC Dilijan College visited CANDLE Institute. UWC (United World Colleges) is a global educational movement with the mission “to make education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future”.
UWC Dilijan represents an “extension of the UWC movement into the Caucasus region at the junction of Asia and Europe”. Currently, the College is a home for 213 students from 82 countries (Japan, Norway, Spain, Brazil, Poland, India, China, Italy, Greece, Armenia, etc.).
The students were firstly welcomed by the director of CANDLE SRI, who gave an introduction to particle accelerators, relativistic electron beams and brilliant light produced at advanced national laboratories worldwide. Afterwards, an excursion was organized to AREAL laboratory, where the principles of laser driven electron accelerators operation and their highlights for producing brilliant light were introduced. The importance of ultrashort brilliant pulses in exploiting the Nano World was explained. The state-of-the-art laser driven microscopy and microfabrication experimental stations were also represented to the visitors. It was an exciting event both for the students and the CANDLE staff.
