International Day of Light 2020

CANDLE team is pleased to announce that this year the annual event “Illumination of the Unknown” devoted to the memory of the founder and first president of CANDLE, a great philanthropist Mr. Jirair Hovnanian  (June 9, 1927 – August 14, 2007), will be held on June 09. Due to COVID-19 outbreak, this year the event, which is organized within the International Day of Light initiative, will be celebrated virtually. A number of short videos made by our young researchers will be presented where the applications of light in our daily life are shown. This year it is the 60th anniversary since the first operation of the laser. On 16 May 1960 Ted Maiman fired the first laser at Hughes Research Laboratories. Since then the laser has brought multiple revolutions into science and technology that have changed the world. The International Day of Light 2020 is a UNESCO global initiative in the framework of which CANDLE is the national node from Armenia.
