On June 9, the annual celebration of International Day of Light was held at CANDLE Institute. The event was organized online due to COVID19 pandemic outbreak. The annual event “Illumination of the Unknown” was devoted to the memory of the founder and first president of CANDLE, a great philanthropist Mr. Jirair Hovnanian.
CANDLE Director V. Tsakanov gave an introductory speech on the history and establishment of the Institute and last year’s celebration. Afterwards, the young researchers of CANDLE spoke on various applications of light representing videos made specially for this day and celebrated the 60th anniversary of Laser. The videos addressed light polarization, sum-frequency generation, light diffraction, light control and dispersion, etc.
The event was summarized indicating the importance of such events and with a hope that next year we will have better chances to celebrate the International Day of Light offline with a number of guests at the Institute.
