On June 9, within the framework of the International Day of Light CANDLE SRI organized an event entitled “See the Light” which is traditionally dedicated to the birthday of Jirayr Hovnanyan (1927-2007), the founder and the first president of CANDLE SRI.
More than 80 pupils from Basic School No.171, Basic School No.116, Basic School No.13 after E. Thaelmann and Basic School after N. Vanyan of Abovyan city, as well as more than 30 science enthusiasts visited CANDLE. They were welcomed by CANDLE Director Bagrat Grigoryan who spoke on the types and sources of light and the CANDLE young researchers demonstrated various experiments on the everyday applications of light. A tour was organized to the AREAL accelerator complex for the visitors.
The results of the “See the Light” photo contest were summed up within the framework of the event. Out of more than 14 pictures, the 2 best ones were selected and awarded with prizes. The winner was Arthur Harutyunyan.
All the events organized at CANDLE this year will be held within the framework of the 20th anniversary of CANDLE SRI.
The International Day of Light 2022 is a UNESCO global initiative in the framework of which CANDLE is the national node from Armenia. The International Day of Light raises global awareness of the importance of light science and technology in areas such as communications, sustainable development, climate action, and healthcare.
