Memorandum of Understanding is signed between Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the State Committee of Science of RA

On 05-07 November 2012 the Armenian delegation headed by the Chairman of the State Committee of Science (SCS) of the Ministry Education and Science RA Prof. Samvel Haroutiunian visited Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics (SINAP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences with regard to the CANDLE synchrotron light facility project in Armenia. The program of the visit included acquaintance with Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF), Free Electron Laser facility and Super Conductive Hi-Freq Cavities laboratory.

On 07 November 2012 the SINAP directorate received the Armenian delegation. The status and highlights of SINAP (Prof. Zhao Zhentang, director) and CANDLE project (Prof. Vasili Tsakanov, director) were presented. The collaboration between SINAP and SCS on CANDLE project was discussed.

Both sides highly evaluated the potential of collaboration between Chinese and Armenian scientists in the fields of advanced light sources and their applications in basic and applied sciences in long-term perspectives.

SINAP expressed its support and interest in collaboration on CANDLE facility development both at the stage of project implementation and the experimental program. It has been agreed to establish cooperation by promoting the following activities:

  • Exchange of expertise and resources
  • Development of joint research programs
  • Training of young scientists and engineers
  • Organization of collaboration workshops

The corresponding Memorandum of Understanding between Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and State Committee of Science of RA and CANDLE was signed.
